BWPPA – Barnsley

This was the first event of the year and after a disappointing end to the previous year I was determined to put in a good performance.   Unfortunately we were 5 players down due to illness, however this gave me a bye into the next round due to my ranking position.  This also enabled me to get other things organised as my new role as chairman.

Saturday was a bit of a slow start as I just scraped through my first match beating Phil Hendrickson.  Phil is a new member to the tour and a very promising talent.  I then beat Shaun Madin 7-2 and started to feel like I was hitting the ball better with each game I played.   My win over Shaun secured me a place in Sunday’s semi final against Tony Southern.

I normally like to get to the venue at least 30 minutes before my match but due to the parking machine at the hotel being broken I was delayed leaving the hotel and only arrived 10 minutes before my match started.   Thankfully it didn’t affect my performance as I went on to win the match 7-2.  This left a final match against probably my biggest rival Aslam Abu-Baker.   I felt the final was a good quality match with both of us playing some good stuff.  I went on and won the match 7-5 and further secured my no.1 spot.

I would like to thank all the staff at Riley’s, the tournament Director Ryan and all the committee for their hard work.
